O Come, O Come, Immanuel

I really wanted to write an unaccompanied piece for the my women's choir 2016. O Come, O Come, Immanuel was our theme that year so this seemed the perfect choice, but as I started to look at the different lyric versions available, none of them addressed the here and now--the plea that we still have for Him to come. I asked my talented friend and member of the choir, Anne Adams, to consider writing an extra verse about Christ's second coming. I think you will find the results of her prayerful, consecrated effort beautiful and inspiring. Thanks to the RS Christmas Choir 2016 for the recording!

Lyrics

O come, o come, Immanuel,

And ransom captive Israel,

That mourns in lonely exile here

Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice, rejoice! Immanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, o come, great Lord of might,

Who to thy tribes on Sinai's height

In ancient times once gave the law

In cloud and majesty and awe.

Rejoice, rejoice! Immanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Desire of nations, bind

In one the hearts of all mankind;

Bid thou our sad divisions cease,

And be Thyself our King of Peace.

Rejoice, rejoice! Immanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

We know Thy final advent is near;

Prepare each heart that we Thy voice may hear.

Give strength, O Lord, to serve Thee well,

And be our Champion still Immanuel!

O come, Immanuel!

Come and ransom Israel!

Rejoice, rejoice! Immanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel.
