The Pearl

My mother gave a precious gift
Imprinted on my soul.
She gave it to me quietly,
So I would never know.

She cheered me at my soccer games.

She let me paint and sing,
Watched me dance and be a gymnast,
Let me try most anything.

She made all of my costumes

When an actress on the stage.
She listened to me when I lost
And helped me turn the page.

She never said I couldn't.

She never thought I'd fail.
She cheered and stood beside me
As she let my heart set sail.

She gave to me the confidence

She felt she never had.
She gave to me the greatest gift
I never knew I had.
